WorldSkills NZ 2022 Electrical Interschool Competition

5 May 2022

WorldSkills is an independent, non-profit charitable trust dedicated to encouraging excellence in vocational skills through skill competitions. They have recently been awarded a contract through the Ministry of Education to run six events across New Zealand including Hamilton, Napier, Christchurch, Timaru, Dunedin, and Invercargill.

The interschool electrical skill competition kicks off in June and is for senior school students (Year 11-13) with the aim of bringing together students who are interested in learning about pathways in the electrical industry. Alongside the competition there will be electrical related activities where competition visitors can test their skills and meet with electrical industry people to learn about this dynamic industry.

South Island events will be held in conjunction with the Master Electricians Apprentice Challenge. Adding another dimension to the event, ākonga (students) will see first-hand various projects being worked on by apprentices.

Carl Rankin, General Manager of WorldSkills New Zealand, says “We are really pleased to showcase the electrical industry through inter-school competitions, supporting meaningful connections between students and employers, raising awareness of electrical pathways, and encouraging success and achievement.”
